The new multidisciplinary call for the NWO Caribbean Research programme is open for applications. This call, with a budget of 7.18 million euros, comprises a special approach. NWO is seeking two programme chairs who will each set up a multidisciplinary research programme: one with a focus on socio-cultural issues and based in the Leeward Islands, and one focusing on natural-science issues and based in the Windward Islands.

Op 13 augustus 2019 is in Leiden overleden de cultureel-antropoloog prof. dr André Köbben. Hij was hoogleraar in de Culturele Antropologie en Sociologie der Niet-Westerse Volkeren aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam, Cleveringa-hoogleraar aan de Rijksuniversiteit Leiden en Bijzonder hoogleraar aan de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam. Hij was lid van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen. Als wetenschapper, beleidsadviseur, moralist, en essayist geldt hij als een invloedrijk leermeester van generaties van Nederlandse antropologen. Hij werd 94 jaar. read on…

Oud-notaris Carlo Jadnanansing heeft woensdag in de Centrumkerk een eredoctoraat ontvangen. Hij heeft in zijn rede aangetoond op welke acht manieren de Staat gronden kan terugnemen. Het meest opmerkelijke is het Domeindecreet van 1981. Hierbij speelt de president een centrale rol in het terugnemen van onbeheerde en verlaten gronden, kost het de Staat niets (geen schadeloosstellingen) en kan het proces al in 11 maanden afgerond zijn.
