Once upon a time all languages began as spoken languages. Written language (codification and standardisation) came much later like the notion of ‘standard’ and ‘non-standard’ languages.
Official recognition would become ‘problematic’ for languages derived from a ‘standard’ language, such as minority and Creole languages. Sometimes it lasted quite some time before a minority language achieved the status of ‘genuine’ language. read on…

Paramaribo – Renate de Bies presenteert op 19 november haar culinair vertaalwoordenboek Carisur Culinair Dictionaire. Daarin beschrijft ze niet slechts gerechten, maar ook andere zaken als eetbare flora, fauna en voorwerpen die met eten en drinken te maken hebben. Behalve dat ze woordenboeken samenstelt, is ze lexicoloog: een taalkundige die zich bezighoudt met de bestanddelen van een taal.
