Tropisch Koninkrijk

De tentoonstelling Tropisch Koninkrijk in Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle vindt plaats in het kader van de viering ‘200 Jaar Koninkrijk’ en geeft een uitgebreid overzicht van de hedendaagse beeldende kunst van Aruba, Curaçao, St. Maarten, Bonaire, Saba en St. Eustatius. Met werk van twintig kunstenaars presenteert het museum een grote variëteit aan kunstvormen: van klassieke schilderijen tot moderne installaties. Een aantal kunstwerken wordt speciaal voor de tentoonstelling op locatie gemaakt. De Nederlands-Caribische kunst onderscheidt zich door haar sterke internationale oriëntatie en multiculturele gelaagdheid.

Exhibition ‘A breast or two’ MonArt Gallery, October 26 2012

This pendant is like one of the 87 breasts in the necklace ‘A breast or 87’. This necklace was made for the exhibition ‘A breast or two’, dedicated to those who had to face breastcancer.
The pendant is a stylized mammary gland with a swarovsky stone as the nippel. At the back of the pendant is written in gold, one of the ‘gifts’ we get after dealing with the challenges in our lives, of which breastcancer can be one. Porcelain, swarovsky, gold luster, linnen.

One third of the proceed of the pendant will go to the Department of Hemato-Oncology of the Sint Elizabeth Hospital Curaçao for the development of a specialized clinic within the hospital.

Each challenge we decide to confront in life helps us grow into better, stronger, and more interesting human beings. Our greatest challenges grant us our greatest gifts. It is in difficult times that we learn who we really are.

Each delicate – but brilliant – breast in this necklace stands for the numerous hardships we go through and the many gifts we receive in return. We often do not instantly realize what our personal battles have produced. The true gifts are hidden and written in gold luster at the back of each breast. Love, peace, trust, joy, sincerity…
