Shella Record: A Reggae Mystery
On Thursday, November 11, at 8.30pm, Melkweg Cinema, in collaboration with Caribbean Creativity, presents the Dutch premiere of the much-anticipated documentary 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱: 𝗔 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗴𝗮𝗲 𝗠𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆!
In this fascinating film, DJ, artist and record collector Chris Flanagan sets out on a decade-long quest to find Shella Record, a lost female reggae singer whose beautiful voice is heard on ‘Jamaican Fruit of African Roots’, one of King Tubby’s most dramatic dubs from the 1970s. We start the evening with an introduction by Martijn Huisman, the author of the new book 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗴𝗮𝗲𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and the short documentary 𝗥𝘂𝗳𝗳 & 𝗧𝘂𝗳𝗳: 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗲’𝘀𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗥𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘀, another recent film directed by Flanagan.
