Dutch Caribbean Species Register

Overview of the biodiversity of Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten

The Dutch Caribbean Species Register is a synthesis of centuries of natural history and biodiversity research in the area. The first species descriptions are found in publications dating back to the 18th century, such as Peter Simon Pallas landmark publication on corals (Elenchus zoophytorum, sistens generum adumbrationes generaliores et specierum cognitarum succinctas descriptiones, cum selectis auctorum synonymis). Over a 1000 older and recent publications form the foundation of this database.

Naturalis Biodiversity Center, the institute behind this species register, has an active research programme in the Caribbean. We undertook recent expeditions to Sint Eustatius (marine and terrestrial), Saba Bank and Curaçao. Resulting species descriptions and records will be published here as soon as they become available.
